    I have 2006 Cadillac srx need to program a new key

     if all keys are lost you will need to perform  a theft  relearn either on tisweb with a paid sub or tis2000, this can be done with a passthru device and a laptop , not the autel tools . if you have an existing key then just cycle your existing key for 5 seconds then the replacement key.

     With Ford (at least the older PATS systems) you can do something similar but you need  2 working PATS keys (neither that are a clone of the other one ) and then you can add an additional   key after cycling the ignition on for several seconds with the 2 programmed keys before the un-programmed one will take immediately after the same way.

     yes that is correct on ford. gm  is much decent, only one is required and if there is one already programmed the second can be added like I stated above very easy. also late model fords like 2013 and above only one key is required as well  in many cases. old jags and rover the same deal 2 keys, don't know about their late models, haven't done one yet.

     If I am not mistaken, econolines are non transponder keys and do not require programming.

     ford defines the key as pats1 with starter inhibit

    I think there is a chip in there
